The City’s Audit Committee today received the Auditor General’s Annual Report and Detailed Audit Reports. The Annual Report includes five audit reports:

  • The audit of the financial partnership between the City and Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group for Lansdowne Park found that the City has processes to monitor and validate financial results. The report identified a need to increase the frequency of examination and analysis to reduce risks to the City and ensure that forecasted returns are accurately reported.
  • The audit of by-law enforcement found that the City has effective policies, processes, procedures and service standards to support consistent enforcement. The report identified opportunities to improve staff training and development.
  • The audit of facilities management found that the City could improve definitions and communications around departmental roles and inter-departmental responsibilities.
  • The audit of Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe and Shenkman Arts Centre indicated that for each theatre to reach its full potential, changes to strategic and operational activities are recommended.
  • The audit of the contingency fund for Stage 1 LRT found that the City had adequate processes to review, approve and monitor spending to address cost changes during construction.

The Committee also approved the 2021 draft budget for the Office of the Auditor General.

The Committee received a plan from Ernst & Young, the City’s independent external auditor, to audit the City’s 2020 financial statements and confirm they follow Canadian public sector accounting standards.

Items from today’s meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, December 9.
