The City’s Planning Committee today refused two development applications needed to redevelop the Kanata Golf and Country Club as a 1,544-unit residential subdivision.
The Committee agreed with planning staff that the plan of subdivision was incompatible with the surrounding community, and premature as the applicant has not secured a legal stormwater outlet. A concurrent zoning amendment was refused for being inconsistent with multiple Official Plan policies.
The applicant has appealed both applications to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, but the Committee recommends that Council ask that the tribunal not approve either when it considers the matter in early 2022.
The Committee approved its draft budget for 2021, which includes $71.4 million in operating funding and $24.6 million in capital funding related to planning. This includes $750,000 to develop the City’s new Official Plan and $1.35 million to rewrite the Zoning By-law. Draft Budget 2021 allocates $21.1 million for new affordable housing, including a $15-million municipal investment and $6.1 million from the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative.
After being destroyed by fire in April 2019, Vittoria Trattoria restaurant could soon return to its home in the ByWard Market. The Committee approved a zoning amendment permitting a new building facing William Street that would retain much of the original building’s façade. The restaurant portion would be two storeys and the building would increase to four storeys to the rear, with hotel rooms on the upper floors accessible from York Street.
Recommendations from today’s Planning Committee meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, December 9.
