Today marks the 20th anniversary of the City’s Bilingualism Policy. This policy was adopted by City Council on May 9, 2001 and reaffirmed the City’s commitment to offer services in English and French to both residents and City staff.
To celebrate this important milestone, the City is pleased to launch our new “One City, two languages” logo (pictured below). This new logo showcases the original flower from the 2009 campaign that combined Ontario’s trillium flower and the Francophonie’s Fleur de Lys to form a symbolic flower. The new visual identity goes further by depicting two individuals in the flower petals to embody the slogan “One City, two languages” by representing two cultures coming together as one.
We are proud of our City’s Francophone heritage and are always looking to improve our services. We are more committed than ever to providing services to our residents in their official language of choice.
Our Bilingualism Policy recognizes both official languages as having the same rights, status and privileges. This means that products and services are available in both official languages, including the following:
Our bilingual character has enriched our City’s culture and makes Ottawa a great place to live, work and play. We continue to manage and operate our very own Francophone long-term care residence and childcare services. We celebrate our Francophone heritage through various initiatives throughout the year and we welcome our residents and staff in both official languages. These attributes make us attractive to newcomers, Francophone businesses looking to invest, and for tourists looking for a travel destination.
Please join us in celebrating this important milestone! We look forward to serving all residents in the official language of their choice.
Happy 20th Anniversary to the City’s Bilingualism Policy!
