The number of vaccines in arms is climbing fast, but we are still on the road to community immunity. We haven’t arrived yet.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve been hearing from public health officials that minimizing contact between households is a key way to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Even the people who have received their first dose of vaccine need to continue to follow all public health measures. This means that over the long weekend, we need to keep wearing our masks and say no to gathering with people outside our households.

But even with restrictions in place, there are lots of ways to make the upcoming long weekend a great one.

Get outside…

Weather permitting, consider planning an outdoor-focused long weekend.

  • Take a ride on one of the City’s many beautiful bike paths. And don’t hold back, because Rack & Roll season is here!

Remember, it doesn’t have to be complicated or elaborate to be special. Something as simple as an extra long walk with the dog or starting a small herb garden are great ways to enjoy the season and support your mental health during these difficult times.

Plan a special meal…

If you’ve gone through your favourite recipes nine times already, the long weekend is a perfect time to treat yourself and order in. There are lots of resources to help you support local and navigate the seemingly endless tasty options around Ottawa.

Check out what’s happening virtually…

Many organizers of the special events we all look forward to this time of year have found creative ways to adapt to the current restrictions. Visit Ottawa Tourism for virtual Tulip Festival tours, and to find out what’s coming up later this spring.

And whatever you do…

Stay safe, and be COVID Wise:

  • Spend the long weekend with those you live with only

  • Practice physical distancing from others when in public

  • Wear a mask where required or when you cannot maintain physical distancing

  • Wash your hands

  • Stay home if you’re sick.
