Residents of Ottawa have a chance to learn how to get the most out of their wood stoves or fireplaces at upcoming workshops organized by the City and the federal government.

Tuesday, November 25
Time: 7 - 9 p.m.
Location: First Avenue Public School, 73 First Avenue

Wednesday, November 26
Time: 7 - 9 p.m.
Location: Cairine Wilson Secondary School, 975 Orléans Blvd.

Over three million Canadians burn wood, either for heat or enjoyment. The Burn it Smart campaign will help them continue to enjoy their fires, while minimizing the health, environmental and safety impacts from inefficient wood burning.

Novice wood burners or seasoned veterans will learn how to burn cleaner, safer, and more efficient fires and reduce wood smoke. For the “ultimate” cleaner fire, the role of high efficiency stoves, fireplaces and inserts, certified by the Environmental Protection Agency, will be discussed.

As part of the workshops, residents will have the opportunity to ask questions to experts, see the difference between a conventional air tight stove and a high-efficiency wood stove, as well as win door prizes.
