The City’s Planning Committee today approved a zoning amendment for a nine-storey building on Beechwood Avenue, west of St. Charles Street. The site includes several properties on Beechwood Avenue and Barrette Street, and the redevelopment would add 227 new units to the community.
The approved zoning amalgamates the entire site and increases the permitted height to nine storeys. In exchange for the extra height, the applicant would invest $738,000 in new benefits for the community, adding cycling infrastructure and other safety improvements.
The Committee also approved zoning for two new residential subdivisions in Ottawa’s east and south ends. In the Cardinal Creek community of Orléans, the approved zoning would see 109 townhouses and a new park added to a site off Trim Road that used to be a school bus maintenance and storage yard. In Riverside South, a new community planned off Spratt Road, just south of Earl Armstrong Road, would add 265 two-storey townhomes, in line with the vision of the Council-approved Riverside South Community Design Plan.
Recommendations from today’s Planning Committee meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, June 23.
