One of COVID-19’s most consistent problems is its inconsistency. Just when we get used to new regulations, they change on us. It can be hard to keep up. This Father’s Day, the rules around outdoor gatherings and shopping, for example, are different than they were last month for Mother’s Day. The good news is, the latest changes are a sign we’re heading in the right direction.

Tips to enjoy…

the outdoors

A Father’s Day barbeque is totally doable, just keep the number of people attending to no more than ten. People from different households can mark the day together this year (yay!) – just remember to keep two metres apart, wear masks if you can’t maintain distance, and wash your hands frequently.

If taking the kids to a City park or a splashpad is part of your plan for the day, find out what amenities are open before heading out.

patios

The fact that patios can reopen is reason enough to celebrate. But add Father’s Day into the mix? It’s bound to be busy!

Remember:

  • Four people are allowed at one table, although more are allowed if everyone in the group belongs to the same household, and the restaurant has space.
  • You should maintain a distance of two metres from other patrons.
  • You should wear a mask when distancing is difficult.

shopping

If you have last-minute Father’s Day shopping to do, this is a great chance to support small businesses in your community and buy local! Non-essential retailers, such as gift shops and clothing stores, are open at 15-per-cent capacity.

Reason to hope

With the number of COVID-19 cases decreasing and more and more people getting vaccinated, it’s possible that next year, our family gatherings will look and feel more like they used to.

Here’s what you can do to help us get there:
