Canada Day schedule changes

The City of Ottawa would like to remind residents of the following schedule changes for Canada Day, Thursday, July 1.

You can find a list of City services and facilities affected by COVID-19 on ottawa.ca and octranspo.com.

Client Service Centres​

• The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters. Call 3-1-1 or 613-580-2400 to speak to a customer service representative. For persons with a hearing-related disability, call TTY: 613-580-2401.
• The Client Services Centres at Ottawa City Hall and Ben Franklin Place and the City’s Provincial Offences Court at 100 Constellation Drive will also be closed.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection​

• There will be no curbside collection of green bins, recycling or garbage on Canada Day. Collection scheduled for Thursday, July 1 will be collected on Friday, July 2. Friday’s collection will take place on Saturday, July 3.
• Garbage at multi-residential properties will be collected on the regularly scheduled day. Collection of recycling and green bins will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
• The Trail Waste Facility will be open on Canada Day and Saturday, July 3 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Parking​

• All overtime parking, signed or unsigned, are not being enforced on residential streets. All other parking restrictions are in effect.

Transit service​

• OC Transpo will offer no-charge service all day on Canada Day. Use OC Transpo’s Travel Planner to plan your trip.
• Buses will run on a Sunday schedule. Extra service will be available for busy routes. O-Train Line 1 will operate on a reduced weekday schedule, with evening service extended until 1 am. O-Train Line 2 bus service will operate on a Saturday schedule, with evening service extended until 1 am.
• The OC Transpo Customer Service Centre in the Rideau Centre will be open on July 1 by appointment only. Appointments are available between 10 am and 5 pm. Call 613-741-4390 to book an appointment.
  • All other OC Transpo Customer Service Centres remain closed at this time.
• Para Transpo operations:
  • Para Transp will operate a holiday service. Regular scheduled trips are automatically cancelled on Thursday, July 1. Customers may start booking trips one week before by calling 613-244-7272 or online beginning Thursday, June 24.
  • Para Transp service will be extended, with pickups available until 2:30 am (2 am for rural trips).
  • The reservations line (613-244-7272) will be open from 7 am until 9 pm.
  • The trip cancellation and general inquiries line (613-244-4636) will be open with extended hours from 6 am until 3 am.
  • Taxi Cupons (613-842-3670) will be closed.

Fireworks​

• Consumer fireworks may only be discharged between Wednesday June 30 and Friday, July 2. Fireworks displays must be directly supervised by someone 18 or older and must take place on private property with the property owner’s permission. Minimum safety distances, as indicated on the fireworks product, must be maintained from spectators, buildings, vegetation and vehicles. The display must not cause danger or nuisance to any person or property.
• Sale of consumer fireworks is prohibited in the City of Ottawa, except on Canada Day and the seven business days immediately preceding it.
• It is prohibited to sell or use firecrackers in the Province of Ontario at all times. Please review Ottawa’s Fireworks By-law for further details.
• It is prohibited to discharge fireworks on City property – which includes parks, sports fields and beaches.
• Ottawa’s four school boards also do not allow discharging fireworks on any of their school properties, including sports fields and tracks.
• The use of consumer fireworks dramatically increases risk of fire and injury. Ottawa Fire Services does not recommend holding personal fireworks displays. Outside fires​

• A permit is required to light a fire on private property anywhere in the City of Ottawa. This includes having a backyard fire, using an outdoor wood-burning fireplace or using a large fire pit.
• A permit is not necessary for outdoor natural gas, propane or ethanol fireplaces.
• It is unsafe to set and maintain open air fires in certain areas of the City. Check online through MyServiceOttawa to verify if your address is eligible for a permit.

Recreation services​

• Beaches, outdoor deep-water pools, wading pools, and splash pads will be open, weather permitting.

Ottawa Public Health​

Visit the OPH COVID-19 Testing Information page for hours of operation and to book appointments at assessment centres and care clinics in Ottawa. The following sites will be open on Thursday, July 1 for testing in Ottawa:

• COVID-19 Care and Testing Centre – Moodie (8 am to 3:30 pm)
• COVID-19 Care and Testing Centre – Heron (8 am to 3:30 pm)
• COVID-19 Drive-Thru Assessment Centre on Coventry Road (10 am to 2 pm)
• North Grenville COVID-19 Assessment Centre (Kemptville) (8 am to noon)

Public Health Services​

• The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.
• The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence Street will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 pm to 11:30 pm.
• The Ottawa Public Health Information Centre will be closed on Thursday, July 1 for general calls. Ottawa Public Health’s COVID-19 phone line at 613-580-6744 will be open from 8:30 am to 4 pm.
• Dental clinics will be closed.
• The Baby Help Line will be closed.

Community and Social Services​

• The Tom Brown respite centre, at 141 Bayview Road, will be open from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Thursday, July 1.
• The Bernard Grandmaître respite centre, at 309 McArthur Road, and the St. Paul’s Eastern United Church respite centre, at 473 Cumberland Street, will be closed.

Municipal child-care services​

• All Municipal childcare centres will be closed on Thursday, July 1.

Library Services​

• All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed on Thursday, July 1. Virtual services and loans can be accessed on the Ottawa Public Library website.

Cultural services​

• The Karsh-Masson Gallery, Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, City Hall Art Gallery and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at City Hall will be closed.
• The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 will be closed.
• All other City arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed.
