The City is looking for Solid Waste Operators!
The job isn’t an easy one, but employees like Larry Tabungar take pride in their work. Tabungar has been a Solid Waste Operator for 15 years, including more than seven with the City.
“Being a Solid Waste Operator is a good job,” Tabungar explained. “I get to work with great people who are committed to helping the residents of Ottawa. Everyone here is professional and very safety-conscious.”
With more people working from home during the pandemic, a new challenge is increased waste at the curb. “I get my workout on the job,” said Tabungar. “The secret is to eat well and take care of yourself. That way you’re ready for the challenges you face each day.”
But Tabungar has noticed an increase in something else too. “People are more appreciative of the job we do,” said Tabungar. “We get more ‘thank yous’ now than ever before. You get the sense residents really do appreciate what we do to keep the city clean.”
