A lake of tears,
belongs only to me.
Away it goes to sea,
where we were young.
In a solo boat,
I am sailing on.
Where is tomorrow,
where is the star?
Shines on the night ocean,
in a glittering dream.
Silent as I am,
as I will forever be.
Within my soul soaked,
in my poisoned tears.

诗歌和音乐非常接近，也许同源。其实简单质朴，又动人心弦是最难的，华丽了反而喧宾夺主。

Emily Dickinson的诗歌大多都是简单陈述，用词也不复杂，但耐人寻味百读不厌。
