Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC) is a non-profit, community-governed organization that provides primary health care, health promotion and community development services using interprofessional teams of health and social service providers. As a program of SWCHC, Yet Keen Seniors’ Day Centre is a day program that operates 4 days a week, offering language specific and culturally sensitive programming and services to Chinese-speaking seniors aged 60 or above.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator of Yet Keen Seniors’ Day Centre, the Program and Outreach Assistant (Cantonese-Speaking) will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of program (30%), outreach services (40%) and office administration (30%). During COVID, Yet Keen is offering online and phone activities, social opportunities, as well as in-person outreach support for vulnerable and isolated seniors.

Job Specific Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate online and phone programs, as well as in-person programs as circumstances allow
- Coordinate and deliver outreach services for seniors
- Provide other occasional client support such as translation or accompaniment as assigned, and refer clients to other language appropriate community services
- Assist with office and program administration (Answering phone calls, event registration, ordering office supplies etc.)
- Provide remote and in-person technical support and guidance for seniors to participate in virtual activities on a variety of devices
- Track and maintain consistent record of attendance and encounters with clients
- Liaise with SWCHC staff and other partners as needed
- Ensure the safety and confidentiality of both virtual and in-person programming and services
- University degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of some post-secondary education and related experience
- Warm and personable, with strong facilitation skills
- Advanced computer and internet skills; Ability to troubleshoot independently and coach others to learn new skills
- Access to a vehicle and ability to drive to carry out outreach tasks is a strong advantage
- Effective and compassionate communication skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, punctual, detail-oriented
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience and passion in working with seniors, immigrants or other marginalized population facing multiple barriers in a community setting
- Understanding of seniors services from an equity and anti-oppression lens
- Successful criminal reference check, vulnerable sector
Language Capability
- Spoken English and Cantonese required
- Fluent writing in both English and Chinese required
- Knowledge in Mandarin would be a strong advantage
