Yesterday, six Ottawa authors were honoured in this year’s Ottawa Book Awards, hosted by the City in partnership with the Ottawa Public Library. All finalists were selected by a jury of peers and were awarded a prize of $7,500, while shortlisted finalists received $1,000.
Conyer Clayton received the Ottawa Book Award in the English Fiction category for her debut poetry collection We Shed Our Skin Like Dynamite (Guernica Editions). Suzanne Evans’ war-time biography The Taste of Longing: Ethel Mulvany and her Starving Prisoners of War Cookbook (Between the Lines) was awarded the Ottawa Book Award in Non-Fiction.
In French-language literature, Nicole V. Champeau received the Prix du livre d’Ottawa award for French Non-Fiction with Niagara…la voie qui y mène (Les Éditions David). The Prix du livre d’Ottawa award for Fiction was earned by Monia Mazigh for Farida (Les Éditions David).
Arc Poetry Magazine awarded their 2021 Archibald Lampman Award to Deborah-Anne Tunney’s poetic analysis of Alfred Hitchcock’s work in A Different Wolf (McGill-Queen`s University Press).
Véronique Sylvain was presented with the Prix littéraire émergence AAOF 2021 from the Association des auteures et auteurs de l’Ontario français for Premier quart (Éditions Prise de parole).
