City celebrates immigrant entrepreneurs at TiECon Canada

Mayor Jim Watson has recognized four local entrepreneurs for their significant contributions to Ottawa’s economy. The winners were presented with Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards yesterday at TiE Ottawa’s virtual entrepreneurship conference, TiECon Canada.

The 2021 Immigrant Entrepreneur Award winners are:

• Dr. Aali Alizadeh
  Co-Founder, President of Giatec Scientific Inc.
• Ihsan (Sam) Habbal
  Owner, Lunch Lady Ottawa West & Sweet Hits
• Maryam Yazdani
  Founder of GenesisLink Consulting Services.
• Dragan Veljovic
  Maplesoft Consulting; Managing Director of Fontana NBG

After a one year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards return to recognize the success and contributions of individuals who were born outside of Canada and now make Ottawa their home. The awards have been presented annually since 2012.
