This holiday season, reducing waste is a winning proposition. With just a quick comment on social media, you can be one of three lucky people to win a $100 gift card to NU Grocery, terra20 or All Eco Ottawa. Read on to find out how to enter the draw, and check out full details here.
Participating is easy:
1. Upcycled gift wrapping
If it makes you cringe to even think about wrapping gifts using brand-new shiny paper and ribbon and bows that may not be recycled, we’re with you. Using reusable gift bags and finding unconventional materials to repurpose as giftwrapping are great ways to upcycle with a creative, festive flair.
2. Low-waste décor
Crafters unite! Low-waste decorating is good news for the landfill, plus it can be a fun activity for the kiddos. Pinecone trees and popsicle stick stars are quick and easy and gentle on the pocketbook.
3. Waste-free gift giving
Online subscriptions, museum passes and virtual classes are just the beginning when it comes to gifting an experience rather than stuff. They make for a thoughtful gift for that someone special on your list, and are a great way to support local businesses.
4. Strategic shopping and cooking
Is the green bin your sous-chef? Do you check your fridge and write a list of what you really need before grocery shopping? Are your reusable bags already by the door, ready for your next shopping trip? If so, you’re well on your way to reducing waste this holiday season.
