Traffic impacts in Ottawa beginning Friday, December 3

The following projects will impact Ottawa traffic:

  • Highway 417 Westbound on-ramps at Eagleson Road and March Road, as well as Eastbound on-ramps at Terry Fox Drive and Kanata Avenue, will begin closing nightly starting Sunday, December 5, weather permitting, for rehabilitation work on the Marianne Wilkinson Pedestrian Bridge until late December. Closures will rotate between Eastbound and Westbound directions, depending on where the contractor is working on the bridge structure. Motorists may also experience rotating, nightly lane closures on the highway through this area for the safety of the workers. Drive with caution and watch for signs. The pedestrian bridge remains closed overnight on weeknights from 9 pm to 6 am during the rehabilitation activities. Signage will be placed on site in advance of the closures. Road and lane closures for this project will be lifted two hours before or after an event at the Canadian Tire Centre and are weather dependent.
  • Fallowfield Road will have lane reductions in each direction east of the 416 interchange to facilitate a culvert replacement. The lane reductions will be from the 417 interchange, east along Fallowfield Road, through the intersection at Strandherd Drive and ending at the intersection of Strandherd Drive and Héléne Campbell Road/CrossKeys Place. The lane closures will be in effect between 6 pm and 7 am overnight on the evenings of Monday, December 6, Wednesday, December 8 and Thursday, December 9. Watch for signs as you travel through the construction zone. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained. Riders may experience slight delays to OC Transpo routes 110 and 170 during the overnight construction.
  • The following Highway 174 ramps and lanes will be closed for Stage 2 LRT roadwork:
    • The westbound on-ramp from southbound Tenth Line Road will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am until Saturday, December 4 and again on Monday, December 6 until Saturday, December 11.
    • The westbound off-ramp to Champlain Street will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am on Monday, December 6 until Saturday, December 11.
    • The westbound on-ramp from northbound Champlain Street will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am on Monday, December 6 until Wednesday, December 8.
    • The eastbound on-ramp from northbound Montreal Road will close daily from 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, December 4.
    • The eastbound on-ramp from southbound Montreal Road will close daily from 7 am to 7 pm on Saturday, December 4.
    • Highway 174 eastbound lanes will close between Tenth Line Road and Trim Road nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Tuesday, December 7 until Thursday, December 9.
    • The eastbound on-ramp from Saint Joseph, at Tenth Line Road, will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Tuesday, December 7 until Thursday, December 9.
    • Highway 174 westbound lanes will close between Trim Road and Tenth Line Road nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Wednesday, December 8 until Friday, December 10.
    • The westbound off-ramp to Tenth Line Road will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Wednesday, December 8 until Friday, December 10.
    • The eastbound on-ramp from southbound Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Monday, December 6 until Friday, December 10.
    • The eastbound on-ramp from northbound Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard will close nightly between 9 pm and 5:30 am from Monday, December 6 until Friday, December 10.
  • A section of Montreal Road will be closed under the Highway 174 interchange from 7 am on Sunday, December 5 until 5:30 am on Monday, December 6.
  • Byron Avenue is closed between Woodland Avenue and Harcourt Avenue daily from 7 am to 5 pm, until January 31, 2022. Byron Avenue is closed between Lockhart Avenue and Sherbourne Road daily from 7 am to 5 pm, until January 31, 2022.
  • A section of Redwood Avenue between Byron Avenue and Richmond Road will close daily between 7 am and 6 pm until Friday, December 17.
  • The following Highway 417 ramps and lanes will be closed for Stage 2 LRT roadwork:
    • The westbound off-ramp to Pinecrest Road will be closed until summer 2023.
  • Riverside Drive southbound is reduced to one lane from Data Centre Road to Heron Road until June 2022.
  • Hunt Club Road will be reduced to a single lane in each direction from 10 pm Friday, December 3 until 8 am Sunday, December 5.The following Airport Parkway ramps will also be closed during this time:
    • The southbound on-ramp from westbound Hunt Club
    • The southbound off-ramp to eastbound Hunt Club Road
    • The northbound on-ramp from eastbound Hunt Club Road
    • The northbound off-ramp to westbound Hunt Club Road
  • The eastbound lanes on Hunt Club Road will be fully closed nightly from 10 pm to 6 am from Monday, December 6 until Friday, December 10. Detours are in place through Uplands Drive, Lester Road and Bank Street. Mac Street can be accessed via Bridle Path Drive.The following Airport Parkway ramps will also be closed during this time:
    • The southbound off-ramp to eastbound Hunt Club Road
    • The northbound off-ramp to eastbound Hunt Club Road

Road closures and traffic interruptions can be expected during the following holiday parades this weekend:

  • Osgoode Village Parade of Lights, Friday, December 3, 7 pm
  • Richmond Village Santa Parade, drive-through event at the Richmond Fairgrounds, Saturday, December 4, 5 pm
  • Help Santa Parade of Lights, downtown Ottawa, Saturday, December 4, 11 am
