The City advises some residents may have experienced a temporary change in water pressure today in certain areas of College, Knoxdale-Merivale, and River Wards. Full water pressure is expected to be restored tomorrow morning.
Residents and businesses in these areas are advised to run their taps for 10 minutes or until water is clear to flush any air or iron particles from the watermain pipes. Any yellow or ‘rusty’ appearance in your tap water is due to iron sediments being disturbed in the watermain. These iron levels are not considered a health risk.
There is no anticipated risk to health if water was consumed during this event. If you have concerns, please contact the City of Ottawa at 3-1-1.
The change in pressure is a result of water being diverted to other watermains in Ottawa due to the decommissioned Cleary Avenue watermain that is now out of service for the tunnel work for the Stage 2 Light Rail Transit (LRT) expansion.
