With a major snowstorm headed to the Ottawa area, the City of Ottawa is advising of service impacts – including waste and recycling collection.
Environment Canada has issued a winter warning for the Ottawa area with heavy snow accumulations between 30 and 40 cm and possibly higher in some locales. The snow will be accompanied by 35-to-50 km/h winds, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions. As a result, the City advises all residents to avoid and postpone all non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Due to the intensity of the storm, the following City services will see delays and cancellations:
Waste and recycling collection
There will be no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Monday, January 17. The Monday pick-up will take place on Tuesday, January 18. In addition, the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Multi-residential garbage, recycling and green bin collection is also delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Ottawa Public Library branches
All Ottawa Public Library Branches will be closed for the day on Monday, January 17. All bookmobile stops and homebound deliveries are also cancelled.
Transit Services
Line 1 and all bus routes may experience extensive delays and cancellations. Stay informed by following OC Transpo at octranspo.com or Twitter.
Vaccination clinics
All COVID-19 community vaccine clinics will be temporarily closed. Those with appointments are being contacted directly. Clinics are expected to resume on Tuesday.
Counter services
All in-person counter services remain closed due to the current surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Please visit ottawa.ca for how to obtain services remotely and online.
Parking ban
A significant weather event has been declared and a parking ban will be in effect from Monday, January 17 at 7 pm to Tuesday, January 18 at 7 pm to allow teams time to make multiple passes required to clear the large amounts of snow.
