The City is conducting public consultation on proposals to name:
Lyndon Hooper Park (Ward 4 – Kanata North)
In recognition of demonstrated excellence, the City has been asked to name Riverchase Park, located at 570 Winterset Road, “Lyndon Hooper Park”. Lyndon Hooper is a Canadian former professional soccer player and inductee into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011. With many remarkable honours and accolades, he has demonstrated excellence in his field. Beyond his sporting résumé, Lyndon was a once in a generation player who not only played the game with incredible passion and skill, but managed to combine it daily with class, sportsmanship, and humility.
Cindy Mitchell Park (Ward 12 – Rideau-Vanier)
In recognition of extensive community service, the City has been asked to name Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, located at 288 Chapel Street, the “Cindy Mitchell Park”. Cindy Mitchell was a longtime Early Childhood Educator in Sandy Hill. Cindy is a prominent community member, that has played an active role in supporting refugee resettlement, assisting children with home schooling via videoconference, and involved in raising funds to support the Ottawa Food Bank.
Daniel Poliquin Program Room (Ward 12 – Rideau-Vanier)
In recognition of demonstrated excellence, the City has been asked to name the Rideau Library Branch Program Room, located at 377 Rideau Street, “Daniel Poliquin Program Room”. Daniel Poliquin is a renowned novelist, established literary translator and Officer of the Order of Canada. With many remarkable awards and accolades, he has demonstrated excellence in his field. Daniel provided his hometown a voice and an image in Canadian literature.
Pat MacLeod Community Stage (Ward 15 – Kitchissippi)
In recognition of extensive community service, the City has been asked to name the Parkdale Park community stage, located at 366 Parkdale Avenue, “Pat MacLeod Community Stage”. Pat MacLeod was a fixture in the Hintonburg community for years. During the redevelopment of Parkdale Park, she played a pivotal role in the development of a community stage. A familiar face to both longtime residents and new neighbours, Pat was constantly seeking ways to unite the community and encouraging others to get involved.
David Shentow Park (Ward 15 – Kitchissippi)
In recognition of the work to foster equality and reduce discrimination, the City has been asked to name Tillbury Park, located at 725 Sherbourne Road, “David Shentow Park”. David Shentow was a survivor of the Holocaust who dedicated his life to educating others about the dangers of hatred, intolerance, and racism. By sharing his experiences for over 24 years, no matter how difficult it was for him, he has inspired thousands upon thousands of Canadians of all backgrounds to fight genocide and injustice no matter who the victims are, and to always respect one's fellow human beings.
Jim Siew Cricket Pitch (Ward 18 – Alta Vista)
In recognition of demonstrated excellence, the City has been asked to name the cricket pitch within Lynda Lane Park, located at 580 Smyth Road, “Jim Siew Cricket Pitch”. Captain James (Jim) Siew was a prominent figure in the cricket community, who dedicated much of his life to championing the development of cricketers and the sport of cricket in Ottawa, Canada and abroad. With many notable accomplishments, he provided outstanding leadership, mentoring many young cricketers.
