Do you know what type of apple was cultivated here in Eastern Ontario? What was Ottawa’s first bank? Or even what was the Ottawa Hockey Club’s team name when they won their first Stanley Cup in 1903? Now is the time to explore Ottawa’s history during the 2022 Heritage Day celebration!
This year’s Heritage Day event will once again be held virtually on February 22. At 12 pm, a special video made in partnership with Capital Heritage Connexion will be uploaded to ottawa.ca/HeritageDay that you and your family can enjoy.
This year’s event invites you to explore the roots that have built our families and community. You might be surprised to discover how diverse our City’s roots are, or even by how far they extend back in time.
What is Heritage Day?
Heritage Day celebrations and activities raise awareness and encourage the preservation and promotion of nationally significant historic, architectural, natural and scenic heritage. Residents can learn more about Ottawa’s historic sites and museums by visiting ottawa.ca.
And if you were wondering about the answers to the questions above: McIntosh Red, the Bank of Montreal, and the Ottawa Hockey Club. Keep an eye out for the 2022 Great Ottawa History Quiz in upcoming editions of Le Droit and the Ottawa Citizen!
