The City’s Planning Committee today approved a plan to extend Robert Grant Avenue in Stittsville. Adding a new segment between Abbott Street East and Hazeldean Road is seen as integral to the ongoing development of several residential communities in the area.
Fernbank Landowners Group would design and build the road, with the City committing funding of about $20 million.
The Committee also endorsed a public consultation strategy for a 34-storey highrise being considered on Kent Street, between MacLaren and Gilmour streets. The site is subject to the Centretown Secondary Plan, which allows for consideration of taller buildings provided they make significant contributions to the public realm and overall identity of Centretown. Before the Planning Committee can consider an application, however, the applicant would need to engage in a rigorous public consultation process that is first endorsed by Council.
The proposed consultation strategy includes public open houses, meetings with a special design review panel of industry experts, efforts to build awareness and a process to address all feedback received. Development applications for the building would only come before the Planning Committee after the public consultation period ends.
Recommendations from today’s meeting will rise to Council on Wednesday, March 9.
