The City of Ottawa is proud to celebrate its rich Francophone heritage every year during the month of March: Mois de la francophonie.
Once again this year, Mayor Jim Watson will welcome community representatives to his annual Francophone RendezVous, in association with our partners at l’Association des communautés francophones d’Ottawa (ACFO). Tune-in to Rogers 23 for the Francophone RendezVous with the Mayor on March 24 at 8 am.
ACFO Ottawa will also host a virtual Prix Bernard-Grandmaître Gala on Monday, March 7, 2022.
Numerous celebrations are held during the month of March throughout the world as part of Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, including Sunday, March 20, which is International Francophonie Day.
Today, more than 9.5 million people in Canada identify as French-Canadian and almost one Franco-Ontarian in four lives in Ottawa.
This year, the Mois de la francophonie gives Ottawa Francophones two additional unique ways to celebrate their heritage.
In the aftermath of the downtown truck protest, Ottawa residents are being asked to celebrate their #OttawaLove by celebrating Valentine’s Day again on March 14. One of the things that distinguishes our City is its ability to express its love in both official languages. So, between now and March 14, use #OttawaLove or #JeTaimeOttawa on your social media posts to show support to downtown businesses that were affected by the truck demonstrations.
Spread the word about Valentine’s Day in Ottawa and spread the love.
We are always looking for more francophone music to share with our residents. Applications are now open for local musicians who want their music featured in this year’s #OttMusic 2022 programs: Music On Hold and City Sounds! The Music On Hold program selects local music to play while callers to the City of Ottawa’s phone system (3-1-1) wait on hold. The City Sounds playlist is a streamable playlist created annually to shine a spotlight on local talent.
Applications for both programs are open until Tuesday, April 5. Learn more by visiting Ottawa.ca/OttMusic. If you know a local Francophone musician or group, encourage them to submit their work.
