On Wednesday, June 1, the City of Ottawa is hosting its 19th annual AccessAbility Day virtually. Residents can register in advance to attend the celebrations via Zoom from 9 am until noon.
The event is held each year during National AccessAbility Week, a time when we celebrate the contributions of persons with disabilities. At the City, we celebrate AccessAbility Day by recognizing initiatives that remove barriers to ensure everyone can fully participate in our community.
This year’s theme is: Intersectionality – celebrating the diversity within our community. At the virtual event, Deputy Mayor Laura Dudas will provide remarks and proclaim Wednesday, June 1 as AccessAbility Day in Ottawa. It will also feature keynote speaker Sarah Jama, co-founder of the Disability Justice Network of Ontario, video testimonials from the City’s Employees with Disabilities Affinity Group, and a community panel discussion on intersectionality and disability focusing on ways individuals can be more inclusive.

To promote the inclusion of all participants, the following supports are in place for the event:

- Continuous real-time captioning in English and French
- Simultaneous French translation
