City crews are responding to city-wide damage caused by a severe storm that moved through the Ottawa area Saturday afternoon. The City is in enhanced operations for this incident and has mobilized all resources necessary.
There have been multiple reports of power outages, damaged property and fallen trees, particularly in the Navan, Stittsville, Merivale and Hunt Club areas. Crews from the Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Fire Service, Ottawa Paramedic Service other city services are responding to the emergency and will continue to do so into the night. The City’s forestry crews are also responding to fallen trees throughout the city.
Emergency reception centres at CARDELREC Recreation Complex Goulbourn, 1500 Shea Road, and Carleton Heights Community Centre, 1665 Apeldoorn Avenue, will open on Sunday, May 22 at 10 am. These centres will provide washrooms, air conditioning and charging stations for residents affected by the storm.
The City’s 3-1-1 call centre is seeing a significantly higher number of calls than usual. Ottawa residents are asked to remain patient as workers respond to calls on a priority basis. Please only call 3-1-1 for urgent issues that are a threat to public safety.
Ottawa residents are asked to avoid damaged areas and stay off roads unless absolutely necessary. Road closures and traffic impacts are expected due to fallen trees and debris on roadways. Please follow Ottawa Traffic on Twitter for latest updates.
