Alex Bing: “In the past several years, Chinese Canadians having been facing increased violence, all the while discovering that we have less tools at our disposal to address the dangers we face. We need a wider range of political tools to protect ourselves from physical violence – tools that don’t involve calling the police and alienating our would-be allies. At the same time, we can’t wait for other groups to understand that the narrowness of our political toolbox isn’t our fault. The very jobs we have, the very jobs we’re scapegoated for, are keeping us from developing the political skills and social influences necessary for a non-policing solution (Bing 2022).”
