Let’s Bike Month, formerly Bike to Work Month, is a campaign that encourages and celebrates cycling. The City of Ottawa continues its partnership with EnviroCentre to promote active transportation and encourage residents to travel by bicycle.
EnviroCentre is offering a series of workshops and events during Let’s Bike Month. These are free to attend but registration is required. Visit Letsbike.ca for a full list of workshops, including:
Urban Cycling
Delivered by an experienced cyclist, this workshop will provide participants with tips on incorporating cycling into their everyday lives. You’ll learn helpful hints, rules of the road, and advice on choosing a route to your destination. This workshop is adapted for cyclists of every age and ability.
Family Cycling
Cycling is a fun activity for the whole family! Whether going on a leisure ride or heading to the library, cycling is a great choice for folks of any age. This workshop will cover everything you need to know to make family cycling a success. The workshop will cover kid-carrying bikes, adaptive cycles for adults, route planning considerations, and real-life tips from someone who’s been there! This workshop is adapted for people of all ages and cycling abilities.
Discover your City by Bike
Discover some of the interesting destinations in Ottawa that are easily accessible by bicycle. Heritage sites, nature areas and public art are a few of the destinations that will be covered. Route planning resources will also be highlighted to help you plan your own adventure. This workshop is intended for people of all ages and cycling abilities.
Participants will also have a chance to win prizes that have been donated by local businesses. Sign up by creating an account on letsbike.ca before or during the contest period and log your bike trips on the website during Let’s Bike Month. More information on contest rules is available on letsbike.ca.
You can also visit EnviroCentre’s cycling tips webpage, OC Transpo’s Bikes on our network page and the City of Ottawa Cycling map and tools for more information.
OC Transpo’s Rack and Roll program is back for the season, so if you find your ride too long, try loading your bike on the bus for part of the trip. Tips on how to use the bike rack are available for those not familiar with Rack and Roll.
The City continues to expand its cycling network and currently provides more than 900 kilometres of bike lanes, cycle tracks and other cycling infrastructure.
For more information on City programs and services, visit ottawa.ca, call 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401) or 613-580-2400 to contact the City using Canada Video Relay Service. You can also connect with us through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
