Tornado watch issued for Ottawa​

Environment Canada has issued a tornado watch for Ottawa, warning of severe thunderstorms that could also produce strong winds, large hail and heavy rain.

The weather agency issued the advisory just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, warning conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms starting early this afternoon which may produce tornadoes.

"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation," Environment Canada said. "Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches."

Tornado watch ends for Ottawa and eastern Ontario

All tornado watches and warnings have ended for Ottawa and eastern Ontario, after a series of thunderstorms moved across the region.

Tornado watches issued as severe storms target parts of Ontario, Quebec​

Thursday, June 16th 2022, 12:06 pm - Stay alert! A shortwave trough ahead of an approaching cold front will trigger severe thunderstorms across parts of Ontario and Quebec Thursday afternoon. Residents are reminded to check the forecast regularly throughout the day and prepare to shelter when severe weather strikes.

Tornado watches have been issued across parts of eastern Ontario and southern Quebec, as severe thunderstorms target the region on Thursday. A cold front pushing into the warm and unstable air will spark a risk for strong storms, one which will stretch all the way from Toronto to Montreal. Confidence is highest in scattered severe storms through the afternoon and early evening hours in eastern Ontario and southern Quebec, where storm dynamics look the most favourable for strong winds, large hail, torrential rain and even a possible tornado.
