The nomination period for the 2022 Municipal Elections closed at 2 pm today.

The candidate nomination period for the 2022 Municipal Elections has closed. The nomination period began on Monday, May 2, 2022, and ended today at 2 pm. 210 candidates were certified, with eight candidates being elected by acclamation.

Candidate nomination certification
The City Clerk has certified all candidates in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (the MEA). The MEA requires the City Clerk to examine each nomination that has been filed to ensure it meets the requirements of the MEA and, if satisfied, certify the nomination. All certified candidates will appear on the ballot in the upcoming 2022 Municipal Elections.

Eight certified candidates elected by acclamation

The City Clerk has also certified the following eight candidates for the office of School Board Trustee who have been elected by acclamation:

  • Jolène Savoie-Day, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est - Zone 4;
  • Robert Rainboth, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est - Zone 7;
  • Dan Boudria, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est - Zone 8;
  • Johanne Lacombe, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est - Zone 9;
  • André Thibodeau, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est - Zone 11;
  • Marc Roy, Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario - Zone 6;
  • Jacinthe Marcil, Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario - Zone 11; and
  • Samia Ouled Ali, Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario - Zone 12.

Registration process and deadline for third party advertisers
The registration deadline for third party advertisers is Friday, October 21, 2022, at 4:30 pm. An individual, corporation or trade union may register as a third party by filing a notice of registration in person at the Elections Office, during regular office hours. There is no registration fee for third party advertisers.

Reminder: Virtual candidate and third party advertiser information session

The City of Ottawa’s Elections Office is hosting two virtual candidate and third party advertiser information sessions on Monday, August 29, 2022, at 6 pm (English) and Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 6 pm (French). The information sessions will cover a variety of topics including but not limited to election signs, campaign finances and contributions, voting options, and what to expect on Voting Day.
