Position Summary

Working as part of the HR Operations team, and reporting to the Director, Payroll and HR Admin, the Payroll Administrator/Specialist will assist in processing and distributing payrolls for 1,200+ employees in 21 total pay groups across North America.

Responsibilities

Accurately and efficiently process payroll, which will require understanding, interpreting and applying tax laws and government regulations to payroll and benefit deductions, incentive compensation and retirement funding;

Review payroll transactions for completeness and reasonability;

Research and investigate payroll discrepancies;

Prepare special payments, complex pay and payroll deduction calculations;

Manage and maintain timely compliance for payroll, legal and tax reporting filings;

Support and assist with payroll-related SOX procedures and internal audits, ensuring payroll processes are in line with controls;

Respond to information requests and assist in the implementation of key initiatives impacting payroll, including acquisitions of new assets/employees;

Stay abreast and aware of new laws and regulations regarding payroll related issues;

Assist in identifying recurring issues, problematic trends, and in recommending changes in basic procedures.

Requirements

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large number of payrolls while working under tight deadlines;

Flexible and adaptable: willing and able to change priorities to meet team goals;

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and sound judgment;

Motivated problem solver with the ability to sort through issues to create and recommend improvements;

Strong interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships at all levels in the organization;

Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information;

Strong oral and written communication skills in English; French is considered an asset.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration required; payroll certification is preferred;

Minimum of 2 - 4 years of Canadian payroll experience covering all aspects of payroll processing, with at least two (2) years in a comparably complex company required;

Working knowledge of US payroll preferred but not required;

Experience working in a public and/or fast growth company;

Understanding of collective agreement applications for payroll ;

Expert use of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required and experience working with Ultipro (HRIS) is desirable.
