I only used my citizenship card when I flew to newyork a couple of years ago. Not sure if the rules have been changed.

去美国用不着护照，公民卡就行。

原理上讲，只要你能证明（或是能让对方相信）你是加拿大公民，就可以过境美国。
公民卡，加国出生证明都行。偶一同事，到机场发现护照过期了，结果凭过期护照
和安省驾驶证，也过境了。
不过９１１以后，可能会严格一点。

Is sb. actually traveling by air recently with a citizenship card? A friend of mine needs to travel next Tues.

你可以凭机票办理加急护照，应该是1到2个工作日。

one of my friend just go there by air last month with his citizenship card because the passport is in process. no problem for him.

Although the Government of Canada recommends that Canadians travelling to any destination outside of Canada carry a valid passport, it is not mandatory for travel to the United States or Mexico.

Even though a passport is not presently required for entry to the United States, it is mandatory if you travel on a cruise or continue your travel on to another country.
