Applications for the Young at Art 2023 program are now open! Visual artists between the ages of 12 and 19 who live or go to school in Ottawa are eligible to submit their artwork for this year’s program. Submissions are due by 4 pm on Monday, March 20, 2023 and will be reviewed by a selection committee of new and established artists from our community.

Since 1996, Young at Art has brought the work of young visual artists to local art galleries in a professionally held exhibition, where their works are eligible for a number of awards.

Top junior and senior artworks will be selected in each art medium category from the 2023 Young at Art submissions. In addition, one junior winner and one senior winner will be recognized with a citywide award. Select runner-up and award-winning artworks will be featured in an exhibition at the Trinity Art Gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre, as well as on the City’s Young at Art Instagram account. The exhibition will be on display next year from Friday, April 21 to Monday, May 22.

Submitted work will be evaluated on originality, overall impression/elements of art, technical ability and composition. Visit the Opportunities for students and teachers webpage for full details on how to apply.

The City supports cultural activity that is inclusive of Ottawa's diverse community, including people from diverse ancestries, abilities, ages, countries of origin, cultures, genders, incomes, languages, races and sexual orientations. The City of Ottawa recognizes the Algonquin Anishinabe Nation as Ottawa’s Indigenous Host Nation. Applications from artists of diverse origins, First Nations, Inuit and Métis are welcome and encouraged.

Follow the Young at Art Instagram account for updates on the 2023 program. Award-winning artworks will be featured on the account beginning in June.
