Join the City on Thursday, December 1, from 10 to 11:30 am, as we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event will be held virtually, via Zoom.

The event will feature a number of speakers.

  • Mayor Mark Sutcliffe will proclaim the day as International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Ottawa.
  • Philip Rizcallah, Chief Executive Officer of Accessibility Standards Canada, will provide an update on a Canada without barriers.
  • Rich Donovan, Review Lead, will discuss Ontario’s fourth review of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Philip Turcotte, Chair of the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, will highlight the Committee’s work over the past four years.
  • Jerry Fiori, past Chair of the Ottawa Disability Coalition, will speak to the importance of formal and informal networks, and the need for more organizations to collaborate.

The UN’s theme for this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities is Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Fuelling an Accessible and Equitable World.

We celebrate this day annually to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities and to increase awareness of the barriers that persons with disabilities face. The City is committed to building an inclusive Ottawa for everyone

To promote the inclusion of all participants, the following supports are in place for the event:

  • American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)
  • Continuous real-time captioning in English and French
  • Simultaneous French translation

Register for the event online by 4 pm on Wednesday, November 30.

When registering, please let us know if you require any additional disability-related accommodations to participate.
