In 2023, the City of Ottawa and the Government of Canada are partnering under the 2 Billion Tree program to plant 10,000 trees at Pinhey’s Point Park.
The City of Ottawa is partnering with the Government of Canada through the 2 Billion Tree program to plant 10,000 trees this year at Pinhey’s Point Park. Both partners will contribute $178,800 towards the project.
The goal of this project is to transform four hectares of open fields into a permanent forest by using a variety of native tree species to promote biodiversity and increase the resilience and adaptability of the future forest, further enhancing this city park space.
The afforestation project will also support the City’s Urban Forest Management Plan, Official Plan and Climate Change Master Plan while supporting the goals of both levels of government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help in the fight against climate change.
