City will be phoning those who have not completed vacant unit tax declarations
The City will be phoning those remaining residential property owners who have not yet completed their Vacant Unit Tax (VUT) declarations, to remind them about the March 16 deadline. If a declaration is not filed – even if it is a principal residence – it will be deemed vacant and the VUT will be applied.
The reminder phone calls will be a recorded message that will also outline the available options to complete their declaration:
It’s important to note the City of Ottawa call will not request for any of your personal information on this reminder call, but it will give you the City of Ottawa’s Revenue Services call line to follow up.
Residents registered with MyServiceOttawa can go directly to the declaration from their property tax account.
All declarations will be eligible for an audit, and false claims could result in a fine of up to $10,000.
