OC Transpo ridership climbs to 62 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, in-line with 2023 forecast
The City’s Transit Commission heard today that O-Train Line 1 and conventional bus ridership levels are at 62 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. Ridership increased steadily from 5.1 million customer trips in December to 5.5 million in January, and service delivery was at 97 per cent. This increase matches 2023 ridership forecasts, with more hybrid workers returning to the workplace.
Para Transpo ridership is at 76 per cent of pre-pandemic levels and increased from 53,900 customer trips in December to 57,000 in January. On-time performance was at 95 per cent in January.
OC Transpo is continuing to expand free Wi-Fi connectivity to stations across O-Train Line 1. Free Wi-Fi is currently available at Lyon, Parliament, Rideau and Pimisi stations, and more stations will be added this year.
OC Transpo recently launched a communications campaign targeting new and returning hybrid workers heading back to the office. The objectives are to increase ridership, attract new and returning customers and increase awareness of new and improved transit services. Staff are also exploring new fare options for hybrid workers.
