The City’s Light Rail Sub-Committee received a detailed update today on Stage 2 construction activities.
The City’s Light Rail Sub-Committee received a detailed update today on Stage 2 construction activities as work continues to extend the O-Train network farther south, east and west.
The O-Train south extension will see completion of construction on stations, rail installation and commencement of testing on the full lines. On the east extension, rail and the overhead catenary system will be installed, allowing for vehicle testing by the end of year. On the west extension, rail installation will begin, and progress will continue on the cut-and-cover tunnel.
Today’s update included forecasted schedules for the extensions with the following anticipated completion dates:
The Sub-Committee also received an overview of delegated authority Council granted to the City Manager and senior City management with regard to the Stage 1 and 2 light-rail project agreements to ensure operational decisions were carried out efficiently and within a reasonable timeframe. When Council approved these projects, the reports laid out project-specific delegated authorities with explicit terms and conditions. Staff have regularly reported back on their use in accordance with these terms and conditions and supplemented this through multiple channels. The action plan to address the recommendations of the LRT public inquiry will include enhancing reporting to Council on delegated authority.
