Getting your home yard and community garden ready this spring? If you’re looking for mulch, the City will be offering free wood chips, starting on Tuesday, April 18, at its select work yards and recreation facilities – while supply lasts. You just need to bring your own gloves, shovel and containers, and there’s no quantity limit per person.
Since the April 6 ice storm, our City yards have been collecting tree debris. They have been placed through chippers to produce woodchips – which are great for mulch in gardens and around trees. But remember, these woodchips made from storm debris may include material other than wood and will differ in quality and size from the commercial mulch sold at hardware stores and garden retailers.
The woodchip piles are available 24/7 at the following locations:
Recreation facilities
Yards
Woodchips are produced as tree debris is picked up and so locations that run out may take some time before they can be replenished. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue working on restoring areas that have been impacted by the storm.
Safety is always our priority. When collecting your wood chips, be sure to wear gloves and appropriate footwear. And be aware of other individuals and vehicles at the facilities and yards.
