Justin Trudeau should step down before next election, majority of survey respondents say
Most Canadians — and many past Liberal supporters — think Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should resign instead of leading his party into the next federal election, a new poll suggests.
Fifty-six per cent of respondents to the latest national survey from Abacus Data said Trudeau “should step down” when asked if he should run for office again. That’s compared with 27 per cent who said Trudeau should stay, and 17 per cent who were not sure.
Of those who said they voted Liberal in the 2021 federal election, 28 per cent agreed it’s time for Trudeau to leave, while 52 per cent said the prime minister should run again.
According to his firm’s latest poll, 38 per cent of respondents said they would vote Conservative if an election were held today, versus 26 per cent for the Liberals, which Coletto said beats only his last poll as the worst level of support for the Liberals since Trudeau took office as prime minister in 2015.
