Beginning September 22.
A series of upcoming road closures are required for construction on the new watermains, sewers, and associated road rehabilitation work as part of the Greenfield Avenue, Main Street, Hawthorne Avenue et al. reconstruction project.
To facilitate this work, the City of Ottawa has approved the closure of Hawthorne Avenue and Lees Avenue, as outlined below.
Hawthorne Avenue closures:
Hawthorne Avenue, from Colonel By Drive to Main Street, will be closed over the following three weekends:
During the above weekend closures, the contractor intends to work between the hours of 7 am and 10 pm. A Noise By-law Exemption has been obtained to permit work on Sunday mornings between 7 and 9 am.
Note: These dates could change, depending on weather or scheduling conflicts due to any closures of Highway 417.
Traffic impacts and OC Transpo
Detour signage will be in place for the duration of the closures. Visit octranspo.com for updates to service detours.
Parking and local access
On-street parking will not be possible during the closure, and signage will be in place. Local access will be maintained for residents, business owners and emergency vehicles only to Hawthorne Avenue from Main Street.
Pedestrians and cyclists
Pedestrian access through the construction area will be maintained during this work, dismount and walk conditions are expected for cyclists. Signage and flagging will be conducted to facilitate access through the work zone.
Lees Avenue closures:
Lees Avenue will be closed eastbound from the Greenfield Avenue/Mann Avenue/King Edward Avenue intersection to the westbound Highway 417 off-ramp over the following period:
Traffic impacts and OC Transpo
Detour signage will be in place for the duration of the closures. The closure will impact eastbound Lees Avenue only. Westbound Lees Avenue from the highway 417 off-ramp to Greenfield Avenue/Mann Avenue will remain open. There are no impacts to OC Transpo transit routes.
Pedestrians
Pedestrian access through the construction area will be maintained for the duration of this work. Signage and flagging will be conducted to facilitate access through the work zone.
