布林肯带给以色列明确的信息,不能在南方进行在北方干的事。必须尽量减少平民伤亡,不能使平民成为以色列国防军的目标,攻击前,必须确保平民转移到安全地区。

Message from Blinken in Israel is clear - there must be change of tactics

During this, his fourth visit to Israel since 7 October, Anthony Blinken will certainly be exploring ways of keeping the temporary truce going.

But he’s also here to convey Washington’s thinking on how Israel should behave when – as is still likely – it resumes its military campaign in Gaza.

The message seems clear: there needs to be a change of tactics, to avoid killing thousands more Palestinian civilians.

Quoting an unnamed senior US administration official, the Washington Post says Israel "can’t do what they did in the north in the south".

The warnings come at a critical moment.

Yesterday, Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet, warned that fighting could resume "at any given moment."

"The fighting…will expand to wherever it is needed throughout the Strip,” he said. "There will be no cities of refuge."

There are some signs that Israel is listening to the advice from Washington.

Yesterday a senior Israeli official who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity said Israel’s operation in the southern Gaza Strip would be "different".

But he made it clear that it would still be up to Palestinians to make sure they moved to “safe zones” to avoid being targeted by the Israeli Defence Forces.
