My mom has a tv programme series. 40 discs VCD. She wants me to copy them so that she can keep them.

What is the the most effective way to copy? The most economical way, uses the least space/disc.

And how could I do this? the files are all in *.dat format.

dat就是VCD的格式。copy还能有什么方法？都是文件格式的。跟内容无关的。

Convert to RMVB format. It'll save lots of space compare to direct-copy while the quality won't change too much.

And for the quality, what is the diff between DVD and DVDrip? And how can I play DVDrip in DVD player?

First, convert DAT file to mpeg file( there are several softwares can do this job), then, look for a DVD burner, burn all the mpeg files in DVD to save space.

The quality is not DVD quality, just VCD quality but easy for store, and can be played in normal DVD player.

Why convert to mpeg file? The size of mpeg file will be the same as dat file.
rmvb will give you much less in size, but may take longer time than just tape it depending on your computer.

well, the software I found only convert avi or mepg to rm, so I need to do that first.

if you know anysoftware can do dat to rmvb directly, please tell me, thanks.

and how to make rmvb? is that the same as rm?
