Join the City of Ottawa on Tuesday, December 3 from 8:30 to 9 am at City Hall to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the raising of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities flag, for the first time in Ottawa.

The inaugural flag raising ceremony will include a Proclamation by Deputy Mayor Laine Johnson, who will mark December 3 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Ottawa and present the Proclamation to representatives from Swim Ottawa.

This annual observance promotes a better understanding of the issues people with disabilities face. It also mobilizes support so they can fully participate in society and thrive, removing barriers in many aspects of their lives. The United Nations theme for 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” At the City, we are committed to the values of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities. Raising the Rights of Persons with Disabilities flag for the first time in Ottawa is a meaningful symbol of our continued commitment.

Please register for the ceremony by Monday, December 2 at 4 pm.

To promote the inclusion of all participants, the following supports are in place for the event:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) interpretation in the spoken language
  • Continuous real-time captioning in both English and French
  • Personal support worker

When registering, please let us know if you require any additional accessibility accommodations to participate.
