The Light Rail Sub-Committee receives progress update on O-Train extensions
The Light Rail Sub-Committee today received a progress update on the Stage 2 O-Train extensions to the south, east, and west ends of the city.
The Sub-Committee heard that the Stage 2 O-Train extensions have reached several key milestones this year. Significant achievements include expanding testing on the O-Train East Extension from Blair Station to Trim Station, completing structural work on the cut and cover tunnel on the West Extension, and receiving the Substantial Completion Certificate for the South Extension.
On the O-Train South Extension, Trial Running was completed on October 27, and the Independent Certifier issued a Substantial Completion Certificate on November 26. OC Transpo is now focused on final readiness activities before Lines 2 and 4 can be opened. An upcoming dress rehearsal simulating in-service conditions will provide lessons learned to enhance operating procedures and training. OC Transpo will provide a technical briefing on December 6 for members of Council and media to provide additional details on the progress towards the opening of Lines 2 and 4.
The Sub-Committee heard that on the O-Train East Extension, systems integration and station construction continues. Significant work is still underway across all stations, including testing, commissioning, and applying final finishes. In early November, a successful emergency exercise was conducted involving Ottawa Police, Ottawa Paramedics, Ottawa Fire, and OC Transpo staff. The exercise was designed to test emergency response protocols and ensure operational safety in the event of an emergency.
Staff advised that progress continues on the O-Train West Extension from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Moodie and Algonquin Stations, including work on the Corkstown Yard Light Maintenance and Storage Facility and at all 11 stations. Work on the guideway is also ongoing, and track installation continues in the cut and cover tunnels. Construction of the Pinecrest Stormwater Management Pond was completed in October.
