When I got a quoation for my home insurance, the insurance company told me that they couldn't include "sewer backup" coverage on my policy even I am willing to pay for this coverage. Do you have "sewer backup" coverage on your home insurance policy? Is it very important?

I do. Correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding is that this is the coverage for flooding in your basement. I suppose it could be important if you live in a "high-risk" area, i.e. Centerpoint, or some lowland areas.

Yeah, it covers the damage from the flooding caused by waste water back up from your toilet or drain. There are some areas, most of them are old, with high risk and bad reputation of sawer back up in Ottawa, which had been in City's list to have them fixed in next couple of years. If you are in those area, make sure you are covered.

Thank both of you. Where can I find the list of the area with bad reputation of sewer backup?

The best way is to ask your neighbours about your area, I guess you could also get this kind of information from city's hot line at (613) 580-2400 as well.
