Health insurance coverage usually commences the same day as the employment. This should have been stated clearly on the offer letter.
Group health insurance provided by employer does not requie medical unless the employee purchases addition life insurance on top of the one provided by his/her employer.
The most important question is: has he started working for UBC already?
If he has not started working there, he is not an employee and UBC will not be paying insurance for him and therefore he will not be covered.
If he has officially become an employee, UBC could have legal trouble if they decide to terminate the contract because of his illness. Hopefully this will not happen.
I don't know how serious is his illness. Get the best possible treatment and do not delay!
My friend is currently in US and he has medical plan there. If I undertand right, he wont' have any trouble by accepting UBC's offer? Thanks again, sincerely
