以下是他对新出的KODAK PRO SLR/C 对于CANON 1DS影响的一些观点:

I see this and other forums full of discussions about the new Kodak C, will the 1ds be eclipsed and does the Mark II hold up?

In my opinion, before a photographer decides on moving to digital capture, the first question to ask is, can a system perform equal to or suprass the level of film?

If you are serious about photography the options become limited. The Kodak might perform well in certain instances, some of the digital backs might have more resolution and/or latitude, but as of today, I see nothing to match Canon's offerings.

In fact I am surprised by the responses I hear from photographers in my genre on the acceptance of digital. Weekly I hear stories of photographer's attempts at digital with lost files, crashed systems and the inability to make the digital file resemble film.

The Kodak at only $2,000 in savings does not seem a real bargain and going to a $30,000 digital back seems like a limited option on the other end of the scale.

Of everything I have used (and I have probably used almost every camera made) the 1ds

will do everything I require with virtually no issues.

This project, recently shot in Milan was in studio, on location, flash, available light, mixed light. We shot 5 days and produced of 60 gigs of data.

One of the images was shot at the end of day in almost darkness and all were produced though a very pressured and complex schedule.

To me, the real value of the 1ds is that it is a camera that is complete. Few digital artifacts, or moire, low light sensitivity that equals film and a file size that once interpolated will hold up to almost any size. It is the only digital camera that does not leave me waiting for the next upgrade, or annoucement.

To attempt this project with any camera that required seperate lens settings, has less that robust build quality, issues at medium/high iso, or required a slow shoot spped would have been almost impossible.

To do this project on film would have been possible, but much more difficult.

Yes, I think is good that Kodak and hopefully others introduce cameras of resulotion matching the 1ds. I just don't understand why they always come with qualifiers.

Best,

James Russell
