Hello,
As you know, over the last few months, we have been working on a campaign
to raise awareness about off-campus employment for international students.
While there has been a very active group of students (International
Students Working for Equality (ISWE,) who have made a committment to this
effort, interest in this initiative amongst the wider population has been
less than what we would have liked. This issue concerns all of you, and
should efforts be successful, you would reap the benefits of this advocacy
work. So, what can you do now? You can show your interest and support on
March 31 and the days leading up to it! HOW?
1. TESTIMONIALS - We need testimonials for our display on March 31 in
Baker's Lounge. The theme is: What it means to not be able to work
off-campus? Some issues to think about are professional development,
interacting with Canadians and of course, money. Email them to me and
we'll print them out (anonymously unless you wish to have your name
attached) and have them ready for the display on the 31st. Please
encourage other students to do the same. Deadline is Friday for getting
this to us. We need many, we want people to stop and read and think about
the issues facing international students - this is a great way.
2. FORUM and SURVEYS AT http://intl.engsoc.org/work.html
There is a discussion forum which is now up and running as well as the
"where do you work survey" - please sign up for the forum and also
complete the survey. We are asking everyone to complete the survey, we
need it for information posters on March 31.
3. Volunteers to distribute information prior to March 31.
We need people to volunteer to work at the table as well as to hand-out
information prior to the 31st. If you are interested, please get in touch
with me.
In closing, please get involved - 5 minutes of your time to write a
testimonial would help, 15 minutes to hand-out pamphlets, or bringing a
group of friends to Baker's Lounge on the 31st!
