The Clown Fish

What is a Clown Fish?
There are 28 species of clown fish. They are orange, yellow, maroon and many other colors. The most common clown fish - and the one that looks most like Nemo - is the percula clown fish which is bright orange with white stripes. Clown fish are between two and five inches long.

Where Do Clown Fish Live?

Clown fish live on the ocean floor. They are found in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and . Australia's Great Barrier Reef

Who are the Friends of the Clown Fish?

Clown fish and anemones hang out all the time and help each other out. Anemones are fish-eating animals that look like underwater flowers and have hundreds of poisonous tentacles. Clown fish find most of their food by mooching off the anemone. Clown fish wait until the anemone paralyzes and eats a fish, then helps itself to the bits which the anemone doesn't eat. Clown fish avoid being harmed by the anemones by swimming a funky dance around the anemone's poisonous tentacles. Clowns allow the tentacles to graze their bodies until they build up an immunity to the poison. In exchange for getting food from the anemones, the clown fish clean the anemones by eating dead tentacles. Clowns also protect anemones from predators.

哎,我现在就缺一个anemone,好让clown在上面睡觉,鱼睡觉的样子实在事太可爱了。

还有,和NEMO它爸在一起的是Blue Tang,这里也有卖的,不过据说现实中他们会打架的。。。

Cool , does it really sleep inside the anemones ? I wanna have a bed like that !!

Some points might be helpful for u to choose your anemones

* hard to keep anemones especially, is that they seem to have a very slow metabolism . They are very slow to let us know that they are unhappy and by the time we notice, they may already be too far gone to help them since they are slow to react to beneficial changes too.

** Clownfish host anemones all need lots of light to do well. They obtain most their nutrition from a symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) that lives inside their tissues. Lots of light means from 3 to 6 watts of bulb per gallon of a standard depth aquarium. That means you need at least 4 of the longest bulbs that you can fit over your tank, usually in a ratio of 50% actinic and 50% full spectrum bulbs.

*** Anemones prefer water free of organic wastes, which in most cases means you need to have an efficient protein skimmer. Maintaining the levels of trace elements in the water by performing regular water changes or the addition of commercially available supplements also seems to be important. Charles Delbeek mentioned that iron supplements could benefit the zooxanthellae in the anemones. I found that the addition of CombiSan (which contains iron) seemed to help my sebae anemone regain its color. Moderate current, in addition to clean water, helps exchange needed elements and rid the anemone of waste products. Some of the more delicate anemones seem to prefer higher temperatures in the range of 78-80 F and pH in a consistent range of 8.2-8.4.
