OTTAWA, Wednesday, January 16 - Five of the 39 ministers and
secretaries of state in the federal cabinet are graduates of the University of
Ottawa Faculty of Law.

The list includes John Manley (common law 1976), deputy prime minister
and minister responsible for infrastructure and Crown corporations; Allan
Rock (common law 1971), Industry; Martin Cauchon (droit civil 1984),
Justice and Attorney General; Paul DeVillers (common law 1970),
Secretary of State for Amateur Sport and deputy government leader in the
House of Commons; and Denis Paradis (droit civil 1975), Secretary of
State for Latin America, Africa and la Francophonie.

"We both felt a sense of pride and honour when we learned of the selection
of our graduates to lead the federal government. The University of Ottawa
has never been closer to the seat of power in the federal government," said
the deans of the two sections of the Faculty, Louis Perret (droit civil) and
