Carleton University's Sprott School of Business Wins Major Research Performance Award--Carleton's Research Success Story Continues
June 10, 2004

(Ottawa)--The Sprott School of Business at Carleton University has won the Institutional Best Overall Research Performance Award from the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC). This prestigious award recognizes and encourages research activity in Canadian business schools. The School was also short-listed for a second ASAC Award.

Dr. Vinod Kumar, Director of the Sprott School, said that when the announcement was made at the ASAC Conference in Quebec City, "I felt great pride on behalf of my colleagues to accept this award in the presence of over 600 conference delegates from 33 Canadian and dozens of overseas business schools."

The ASAC award recognizes "per capita" research productivity, and is based on a calculation comparing the number of papers accepted for presentation and/or publication at the ASAC conference to the number of full-time faculty members at each institution. It also takes in to account the number of papers that had received awards in their Divisions.

Recently, the Sprott School was among the top 10 best Canadian business schools for research output per capita according to a recent survey published in Canadian Journal of Administrative Studies.

Researchers at the Sprott School continue to garner national publicity for research projects ranging from branding and image research (Drs. Nicolas Papadopoulos and Louise Heslop), research about generational differences in the workplace (Dr. Sean Lyons) on through to Linda Duxbury's renowned studies on work-life balance. "There's just too many other phenomenal research studies underway in the Sprott School to name them all," commented Dr. Kumar.

The Sprott School's research success story goes hand-in-hand with the overall skyrocketing research story at Carleton University that has seen sponsored research at Carleton grow fourfold in the past four years to the tune of $100 million. In addition to ranking first in the world in international research collaboration, Carleton also ranked third in the world in the quality of scientific research output according to Montreal-based Observatoire des Sciences et des Technologies.

The Sprott School of Business is known for its multi-disciplinary approach to education and research. Among other programs, the School offers a unique Bachelor of International Business program that includes a year of education abroad and an innovative 12-month MBA with a strong emphasis on integrated learning. It has one of the largest Ph.D. programs in Canada and prides itself on producing young entrepreneurs who will help shape the future of business and commerce in Canada.
