With less than a week to go in the Federal Election the Liberals have turned the tide of momentum and now lead the Conservatives in the latest public opinion poll.
Ipsos-Reid is out with new numbers showing significant Liberal gains where the Tories lost.
Nationally, Paul Martin's Liberals have 34% support ahead of 28% for Stephen Harper's Conservative Party. The N.D.P sit at 16%. The Bloc Quebecois hold 13% of decided support while the Green Party has 6% before Monday’s vote.
The weekend survey also highlights an eight point gain for the Liberals in the key battleground of Ontario where the Tories lost as many points. The Liberals who had been lagging in Ontario hold 42% backing in the province while the Conservatives sit at 30%.
The Ipsos-Reid survey is considered accurate within 3.1 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
N.D.P Leader Jack Layton is touring the “905 Belt” in Ontario after taking part in a heated debate on Monday night in his home riding against Liberal candidate Dennis Mills.
Stephen Harper, fresh out of a huddle with campaign strategists, also seeks Ontario votes today. He leaves Ottawa for Sault Ste. Marie and finishes the day in Toronto.
